2021 Training Coordinators
For our Training Sessions, members are divided up by years of experience with HCUA. Mr. Jim Cunius trains our veteran umpires, whereas Mr. Rob Stroup heads up the training for those new to HCUA, and new to umpiring.
Training is conducted with both classroom time, hands-on instruction, and field experience. It also covers mechanics, rules, game management, and other vital aspects in officiating baseball games.
Jim is continuing his role the association’s Veteran Trainer while also serving as HCUA’s President. His objective as a member of the committee is to continue to enhance the quality of HCUA brand of umpiring. Jim began umpiring baseball in 1999 as a volunteer with his son’s athletic league and has been an active member of HCUA since 2015. He is also active in umpiring high school level baseball where he has had the privilege of officiating in two state semi-finals and one finals MPSAA playoff games.
Rob has been a member of Harford County Umpires Association since 2002. He has previously served on the Board of Directors as a "Member-at-Large" for three years, and held the role as Vice-President of the association in 2013-14. Rob was re-elected back to the V.P. position for the 2023 season.
Currently, Rob is serving in the role as one of the two trainers for the association. His main focus is training all new members to HCUA who are just starting with the organization and/or have been with the organization less than three years.
